Personal Injury Lawyer Explains: Should I accept an insurance company’s settlement offer?
The better question you need to ask is what are you settling for?
They are offering you money for the damages that you have suffered. I usually tell people if you suffered minor injuries which healed with a few pain medications and a doctor visit then evaluate your pain and suffering and you have your settlement amount. However, if you are currently still in pain and want to settle to get additional medical help I usually advise against it. You never know the extent of your injuries until a doctor has conducted full medical diagnosis and you have fully recovered from those injuries.
Simply put, when your tooth hurts do you fix it yourself or go to a dentist? You go to a dentist. You are involved in a collision do you want to represent yourself against a multi-billion-dollar company who handles these situations daily? Even if you were represented by our firm we would still not tell you if you should accept a settlement or not. We usually evaluate your personal injury case and make a recommendation. However, at the day’s end, we leave it up to the individuals who should determine if they have fully recovered from their injuries and are properly compensated for their damages.
